Join the Pelvic Exenteration Surgery
“Observership Project” in Shanghai!

To further enhance the professional skills and innovation capabilities of surgeons nationwide in the field of PE surgery, this project combines systematic theoretical knowledge with anatomical hands-on training and practical exercises. 

It aims to help participants fully master the techniques and related knowledge of PE surgery, thereby improving the success rate of pelvic exenteration and patient outcomes. 

The “Observership Project” Advanced Training Course in PE Surgery is jointly organized by the PelvEx-China, Shanghai Changzheng Hospital, the People’s Liberation Army Navy 905 Hospital, and Jiangyin People’s Hospital.

 

Program Highlights

Guidance from Leading Experts

A top-tier teaching team composed of leading experts in the field of pelvic exenteration will provide one-on-one mentorship through anatomical demonstrations and live surgical guidance, imparting core operational techniques with precision.

Comprehensive Curriculum

A holistic knowledge system covering pelvic anatomy, surgical techniques, and complication management is delivered through a diversified teaching approach in the clinical teams.

Intensive Full-Process Surgical Training

Based on a solid theoretical foundation, the project features a step-by-step practical module: observation in the operating room → simulated surgical exercises → hands-on training with real cases, forming a closed-loop reinforcement system of “observation-simulation-practice."

High-Intensity Surgical Immersion

Participants will engage in 2-6 pelvic exenteration (PE) procedures weekly, gaining comprehensive exposure to the full clinical continuum—from preoperative planning and intraoperative execution to postoperative care management.

Course Structure

Demonstration Teaching

A 2-week or 4-week practical learning session at designated teaching hospitals, covering the full process of pelvic exenteration management and live surgical observations.

Target Participants

1. Surgeons interested in or with experience in pelvic exenteration .
2. Department Requirement: Gynecology, Urology, General Surgery, and other specialties related to pelvic tumors.

Program Schedule

We start a new group every time 4 participants sign up, with administration sessions happening 1 time a month.

Training Content

1. Key anatomical points and theoretical explanations for pelvic exenteration.
3. Preoperative imaging review and planning (indications and contraindications).
5. Preoperative preparation, intraoperative management, perioperative care, precautions, and emergency response.
7. Anatomy of the lateral pelvis and pelvic floor related to pelvic organ resection.
9. En bloc/bloodless resection of the presacral area, and en bloc excision of the pelvic floor and lesser pelvis.
11. Prevention and management of empty pelvis syndrome and pelvic floor reconstruction.
13. Pelvic exenteration combined with regional hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC).
2. Case analysis and treatment planning for pelvic exenteration.
4. Impact of preoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
6. Standards for combined pelvic organ resection and pelvic exenteration techniques.
8. Postoperative patient management (participating in the management of pelvic floor wounds and complications at Jiangyin People’s Hospital).
10. Strategies and prognosis for handling the iliac artery and common/external iliac veins.
12. Flap selection for sacrococcygeal wound reconstruction.

Applications close one week before the start of each session, with a maximum of four participants per session.

Fees

Every 2-week observation : 10,000 RMB/person.

Travel and Accommodation

Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses. Recommended lodging options will be provided.

Fee Inclusions: The above fees cover tuition, training materials. A printed training certificate will be issued within five working days after the program concludes.
